Too busy

With my current job in the oilfield abroad, I’ve just been too busy too keep this blog updated with my recent work. With my recent change to a rotation schedule, I’m hoping to do some more photography work back in Pittsburgh, especially with my wedding coming up. Sarah and I will be flying out to California for the honeymoon and I’m looking forward to making some nice images along Rt 1.

Just had some photos that I shot for the Times go up online – the first three images are mine, when the fence was painted for a day of prayer for Zimbabwe, Scheduleman, and a What is the Bible? event we did with New Life, respectively.

Vincent Laforet has been updating his blog with some really amazing footage from a project down in Hawaii with pro surfer Jamie O’Brien. His team is using the RED camera along with a full Canon 5d MkII kit. The footage displays how remarkable footage from Canon’s video-capable DSLR really can be, when produced and directed by a still photographer. He’s just put up a great look at the project on his blog – check it out!

Because of a premature posting of Nikon’s own magazine, there are scans out of the newest Nikon to come out of their shops – the 24.5 megapixel beast of a DSLR that is the D3X.

In Costa Rica…

We’ve been here in Costa Rica for a week now – still have one to go. We’ve ended up on the Caribbean coast in a town called Puerto Viejo. Just got back from an amazing canopy tour with about 15 ziplines all through the jungle with three local guides. I think we’re going to head back across the country to the Pacific side tomorrow afternoon (should take about 8 hours on the local bus system, which has treated us perfectly well so far). I was silly and forgot a USB cable to transfer pictures, but will be sure to get them al imported, sorted through and edited on my Jetblue flight from D.C. up to Boston for my cousin’s wedding. Can’t wait to show off this beautiful country!

Going Multimedia

I’ve been recently looking into the prospect of incorporating audio into the way I present photos – especially in more extensive journalistic stories.

Soundslides is an excellent program for creating enhanced slideshows easily shareable over the web and I am probably going to be giving it a try over the summer to see what I can do.

I’ll be heading down to Costa Rica after the commencement ceremonies are done here at CMU (Al Gore is speaking!) with some friends and thought it would be an excellent opportunity to put together some photo/audio stories. As a result, I just ordered up a sound recorder to take with me from Amazon.com and am looking forward to trying it out.

So look for some cool multimedia in the future of jwramp.com!

Ecuador, coming to an end…

Wow, what a week it has been! I just haven’t had the time to put any updates up – what with all we’ve been up to. Super-ultra-brief-recap:

Mon, Tues, Wed:
Door to door evangelizing in the morning/afternoon
Helping with Vacation Bible School in the afternoon
Visiting/sharing at house churches in the evening

Thurs:
Our day off – checked out some of the sites, got to hang out with some of our new Ecuadorian friends

Fri, Sat:
Flood relief in Salitre – out in wooden canoes handing out food/supplies/water to people who have had everything destroyed – crops, animals, houses, spirits

Sun:
We’ll be flying out in the afternoon, arriving in D.C. around midnight, driving back up to the ‘Burgh and going to class at 9am Monday morning!
